Four Double-Figure Scorers Lead Ferrum to Win Over Averett

DANVILLE, Virginia -- Four double-figure scorers led the Ferrum College women's basketball team to a 77-61 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over Averett University in the Grant Center.

THE BASICS
Skylar Jones scored the first points of the game for Averett, one minute into the game. Kayla Cabiness answered with six straight points to give Ferrum a 6-2 lead and did not trail the rest of the game. Kayleigh Shreffler's three-pointer and jumper helped the panthers grow to a 10 point lead with 1:25 left in the first period.

Jones again scored the Cougars first points of the quarter and put a stop to the Panthers 6-0 run. martin's Three-pointer with a 1:15 gave Ferrum its largest lead of the day, 44-26  as neither team was able to score the remainder of the half. Rayanna Evans three-pointer following a Ferrum turnover cut the lead to 10 points, 52-42 with 2:11 left in the third quarter.

Demeisha Canada's jumper with 3:14 left in the game, put the Panthers up 75-56, their largest lead of the game. Ferrum's defense held strong and didn't allow Averett to score for over two minutes.

Coach Bryan Harvey's team will be back in action Wednesday, February 15, for it's final ODAC regular season game of the year against Guilford College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Swartz Gymnasium.
