Elijah Byrd's bases-loaded RBI walkoff single allowed
Jaden Johnson to score the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as Ferrum College beat Alfred State College 11-10 in non-conference baseball action this afternoon at Panther Field.

THE BASICS
Nick Serce and Tim Holler both homered in the first inning to spot Alfred State an early 3-0 lead.
Russell Golembe and
Ozzie Torres each crossed the pate in the bottom half of the frame to make in a 3-2 game after one full inning. The Pioneers struck for three more runs in the second inning, two on Bryson Rigsby's RBI single down the left field line, and ASU's lead grew to 6-2.
Alfred State scored two more in the fourth inning on Holler's second homer of the game to make it 8-2, then Ferrum got a run in the bottom of the fourth on
Clayton Michael's solo homer to left field. ASU added a pair of runs in the sixth on a Rigsby RBI single to right center, and Owen Lansing on a double steal.
Ferrum scored three runs in the seventh inning, one each on Byrd's RBI single to center,
Shawn Baxter's RBI double to left center and
Bailey Hodges' RBI single down the left field line to trim the lead to 10-6. The Panthers picked up four more runs in the eighth inning courtesy of
Benjamin Thomas' RBI single to right field, Byrd's sacrifice fly to right and
Tyson Measamer's 2-RBI single to right field that knotted the score at 10-10.
In the bottom of the ninth, a pinch-running
Jaden Johnson advanced to third on a wild pitch, then scored when Byrd blasted a ball back to the mound and it caromed off the pitcher's leg high into the air outside outside the third base line. Reliever Matt Sheppard pitched the ninth inning to get the win for Ferrum.

Coach Ryan Brittle's team will be back in action Monday, February 20, at home with a 3:00 p.m. non-conference game against Southern Virginia University. This is a make-up game was originally set to be played Friday, February 17.
