FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College split a non-conference baseball doubleheader with Penn State-Harrisburg this afternoon at home, winning the opener 14-13 and dropping the nightcap 14-8 at Panther Field.

THE BASICS
Ferrum got three runs in the second inning of the opener, two on
Enrique Diaz's single to center field and the other on
Jaden Johnson's single to left. Penn State-Harrisburg picked up a run in the third inning and three in the fourth to grab a 4-3 lead after four full frames.
The Panthers tied it with a run in the bottom of the fifth when
Ozzie Torres grounded into a double play and Diaz scored from third. The Nittany Lions got another run in the sixth, followed by a Ferrum run in the bottom of the inning on
Benjamin Thomas's RBI single to right field to make it a 5-5 game after six innings. PSU plated four runs in the top of the seventh, only to see the Panthers respond with six runs in the bottom of the frame, including Thomas' 2-RBI triple.
In the second game, PSU got two runs in the first inning, one in the second, one in the fourth, six in the fifth and one in the sixth to open a commanding 11-1 lead after six full innings. Ferrum picked up a run in the seventh inning when
Mason Sheesley scored on a wild pitch to make it a 12-2 game.
The Panthers scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, including two on
Shawn Baxter's RBI double to right center. Ferrum then scored a run in the ninth frame off an
Elijah Silver RBI double to right for the final 14-8 score.
