Ferrum Women Post ODAC Win at Home Over Hollins

FERRUM, Virginia – Ferrum College picked up an Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's basketball win over Hollins University tonight at home, winning 50-45 at Swartz Gym.

THE BASICS
The Panthers raced out to an 11-3 lead on three jumpers by DeMeisha Canada, a three-pointer by Aisha Martin and a jumper by Kayla Cabiness in the first quarter.

Hollins got back in the game with a 10-2 run, tying the game at 13-13 on Moriah Mills' three-pointer at 6:30 of the second quarter. Cabria Mutz hit a layup at 2:29 of the second that gave Hollins a 19-16 lead, but Martin made a steal, drove the floor and converted a layup with just under two minutes left in the half to trim the score to 19-18. The two teams were tied 20-20 at the break.

Hollins used an 11-0 run to open the third quarter and surged out in front 31-20 on Rebekah Funderburk's layup at the 5:36 mark. Ferrum answered with a 7-0 run to trim the lead to 31-27 on Cabiness's three-pointer at 2:51. Hollins used a 7-3 run to close the third quarter up 38-30.

Ferrum got rolling in the fourth quarter, using a 14-2 run to open the quarter and grabbing a 44-40 lead. The lead was 46-45 Ferrum with 2:30 remaining in the quarter, and the Panthers held from there for final count.

Coach Bryan Harvey's team will be back in action Saturday, February 11, at Averett University. The ODAC game is scheduled to tip off at 2:00 p.m. in Danville, Virginia.
