Panthers Hold on for Baseball Win Over MBU

FERRUM, Virginia – Ferrum College picked up a non-conference baseball win today at home over Mary Baldwin University, winning 12-7 this afternoon at Panther Field.

THE BASICS
Mary Baldwin scored a run each in the second and third innings to grab the early lead. Ferrum answered with four runs in the bottom of the third, including Grayson Chitwood scoring on a balk and Benjamin Thomas' three-run homer to left field to make it a 4-2 game.
 
The Fighting Squirrels scored a run in the fourth inning, only to see Ferrum add two runs on an error in the bottom of the frame. Clayton Michael and Chitwood had RBI singles to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend the lead to 9-3.
 
Mary Baldwin scored another run in the sixth inning, followed by Elijah Byrd's RBI double to center in the bottom of the inning and the lead was 10-4. The two teams traded runs in the seventh inning, Ferrum scoring on Shawn Baxter's RBI single up the middle to make it an 11-5 game after seven full innings.
 
MBU added a pair of runs in the eighth inning to trim the lead to 11-7. Tyson Measamer's groundout to first base drove in a run for Ferrum in the bottom of the eighth inning to make it 12-7.
