Panthers Sweep Grand Slam Triangle Softball Classic

RALEIGH, North Carolina -- The Ferrum College Softball team swept their weekend down in Raleigh, North Carolina at the Grand Slam Triangle Softball Classic with wins over Oberlin College, 8-1 and Susquehanna University, 8-7 today at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.

THE BASICS

GAME ONE

In the opener against Oberlin, Macey Moore's RBI single got Ferrum on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. The Panthers then tacked on three runs in the second inning, including a pair off Lyndsey Sears' RBI double to right center, then picked up a run in the third on a fielding error. 

In the fourth inning, Moore had an RBI single to right in the fourth inning, then Breanna Weaver stole home to make it a 7-0 game. Autumn Overfelt's groundout to second base in the fifth inning made it an 8-0 Panther lead. Oberlin broke up the shutout when a runner scored on a passed ball.

GAME TWO
Lyndsey Sears started off game two for the Panthers with an RBI single to bring home Laney Jo Patterson, for an early 1-0 lead. Susquehanna answered with three of their own runs in the bottom half of the inning, leading 3-1. Sears answered yet again, this time with a grand slam to center field, to give Ferrum a 5-3 lead.  

The river Hawks grabbed on run in the bottom half of the second and tied things up in the third, 5-5.  Stevie Shaak drove in two runs on her single in the fifth, making it a 5-2 lead Susquehanna. A bases loaded walk by Emily Hopper helped the Panthers cut the lead to one, 7-6.  

In the seventh, after Breanna Weaver reached on an error, Sears hit a double and drove in the game-tying run. Macey Moore then hit a double to right and drove home the go-ahead run. Sears shut down the River Hawks in the final two innings to get her second win of the day.
