BUENA VISTA, Virginia -- The Ferrum College Field Hockey team opened up the season with a 4-1non-confernce victory over the Southern Virginia University Knights this afternoon.

THE BASICS
Freshman
Rylee Staples scored her first collegiate goal at the 18:28 mark in the second quarter, to give Ferrum a 1-0 lead.
Thabelo Nemulodi added a goal seven minutes with an assist coming from
Sara Rah, to lead 2-0 at halftime. Rah then added a goal of her own to extend the Panthers lead to 3-0 in the third quarter.
Riley Hines netted Ferrum's fourth goal of the afternoon after taking a pass from Nemulodi and placing it in the back of the goal. Southern Virginia's Ellie Egnew scored in the fourth quarter to prevent the shutout. Freshman
Maggie Cass earned her first collegiate win as goalie.
