FERRUM, Virginia – The Ferrum College Athletic Department has announced that Saturday, October 5, will be Fan Appreciation Day for the Panthers' home football game against Bridgewater College. Kickoff for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener is set for 2:00 p.m. at W.B. Adams Stadium.
Additionally, the College's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will hold a canned food drive. Admission to the game is free with the donation of one canned food item
PER PERSON. We will also have a donation box at the gate for folks to contribute to a fund geared towards helping families in the local area that are challenged with food insecurities.
Prior to kickoff, Ferrum's 1988 and 1989 football teams, both NCAA Division III semifinalists, will be recognized and celebrated. The 1988 Panthers finished 11-1, while the 1989 team finished 11-2, both under legendary Coach Hank Norton. Both teams won South Region titles along the way for Ferrum. Over 30 members of the 1988 and 1989 teams are expected to be in attendance Saturday.
Ferrum is 2-1 overall under first-year Head Coach Kevin Sherman, with back-to-back road wins over North Carolina Wesleyan University and Averett University September 14 and September 21, respectively. Bridgewater also brings a 2-1 overall record into the game Saturday. The two teams have played each other 21 times, with the Eagles holding a slight 11-10 series lead.
