Football Evens Record with ODAC Win at Guilford

New School Record 48-Yard Field Goal for Deaton

GREENSBORO, North Carolina -- Ferrum College's football team traveled to Guilford College for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) road game, winning 20-7 this afternoon at Armfield Athletic Center.

THE BASICS
Seth Deaton's field goal from 48 yards out opened scoring for the Panthers at 12:45 of the first quarter. Jahylen Lee rumbled into the end zone for a five-yard score eight minutes later and the Panthers held a 10-0 lead after one quarter.

Guilford's Caleb Robles broke up the shutout when he scored on a two-yard run at 6:28 of the second quarter, and the 10-7 Ferrum lead carried through halftime.

In the third quarter, Deaton split the uprights from 36 yards out and the lead went to 13-7 at the end of three. Aiden Vaught found pay-dirt on his five-yard rush up the middle at 8:07 of the fourth quarter and the Ferrum lead was 20-7.

For the game, Ferrum rolled up 251 yards rushing, 211 by Lee. The Quakers fumbled twice, one of which Jameson Hackett recovered in the fourth quarter. Ian Ashworth picked off an errant Quaker pass, returning it eight yards with just under two minutes left in the game. The Panthers fumbled the ball eight times, three of which Guilford recovered.

NEW RECORD FOR DEATON
Deaton's 48-yard field goal is a new school record. The previous record for longest field goal at Ferrum was 47 yards, set by Clint Slappey against Maryville College back in 2007. Records are for NCAA Division III years only, from 1985 through present.
