VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia -- Ferrum College dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball game to Virginia Wesleyan University Wednesday, December 11, on the road. The 65-45 setback at the Jane P. Batten Student Center was Ferrum's first loss of the season.

THE BASICS
Ferrum led early with baskets by
Alfredo Abel-Rivera,
Ahmil Flowers,
Charles Tart III and
Kyree Ellis, and a three-pointer by Marcus Willis III. Ellis' jumper made it a 14-8 Panther lead at 11:35 of the first half.
Virginia Wesleyan responded with a 9-2 run over the next three minutes to grab a 17-16 lead on Khai Seargeant's fast break three-pointer at the 8:19 mark. The Panthers surged back in front 20-17 on buckets by Abel-Rivera and Willis, but an 8-4 run by VWU closed out the first half with Marlins on top 29-24.
Virginia Wesleyan used an 11-5 spurt to open the second half, with T.J. East's jumper in the paint at 14:28 making it a 40-29 game. The Marlins were never threatened from there, as Ferrum could get as close as eight points when Abel-Rivera converted a layup at 11:27 to cut the lead to 46-38. Virginia Wesleyan won the battle of the boards, out-rebounding Ferrum 45-23.
