NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia -- Ferrum College's softball team dropped a pair of games to #8 Christopher Newport University to open the 2024 season. The Panthers fell 6-0 in the the opener, before dropping the nightcap 7-1 at Captains Park.

GAME ONE
The Captains scored a run in the bottom of the first inning off Katie Curren RBI groundout to shortstop, then added a run in the third inning on Carolina Pol's RBI double. CNU plated three runs in the fifth, including two off Kendall Bent's RBI double to left center, and one in the sixth on Katrina Swan's RBI single up the middle.

Swan singled in the bottom of the first inning, but was thrown out at second base, which allowed Candace Slaw to score for the first run of the nightcap. Ferrum's
Brianna Michaels had an RBI single to third in the top of the second inning that scored
Macie Bell for the Panthers' only run. CNU would go on to score two in the bottom half of the frame, then added two in the third and one each in the fourth and sixth innings.
