LYNCHBURG, Virginia -- Ferrum College picked up an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball win Wednesday, February 7, over University of Lynchburg, winning 67-64 at Turner Gymnasium.

Taryn Blankenship layup and two
Trina Lewis jumpers spotted Ferrum a 6-0 lead to open the game. Lynchburg responded with a 10-2 run to grab a 10-8 lead at the 5:19 mark of the first quarter. The two teams battled even the rest of the way, and were deadlocked at 20-20 after one quarter.
Ferrum edged back out in front to open the second quarter on a free throw by
Allessandria Thomas and two free throws by
Kayla Cabiness to make th score 23-20 at 6:11. In another evenly-matched quarter, the Panthers took the lead back on Lewis' pair of free throws at 2:36, then a Blankenship layup at 0:36 made it a 30-27 Ferrum lead at the break.
Lynchburg exploded with a 16-0 run to open the third quarter and Ferrum looked to be in trouble, down 43-30 with 5:25 left in the quarter. The Panthers slowly chipped away at the lead, getting it down to 53-49 with 32 seconds left in the third on a Cabiness three-pointer. Taylor Brown made a layup for the Hornets to give her team a 55-49 lead headed into the fourth quarter.
Blankenship made a pair of free throws at 2:53 of the fourth to get the lead down to 62-60. Thomas stole the ball on Lynchburg's next possession and Blankenship made a layup at the other end of the floor to tie the game at 62-62 with 2:31 showing on the clock.
The Hornets missed a shot on their next possession and Blankenship grabbed the rebound to give Ferrum a chance to go back out in front. Cabiness made a layup with 1:28 left in regulation to give Ferrum a 64-62 lead, was fouled twice down the stretch and converted three free throws to help Ferrum seal the ODAC win.

The ODAC game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off, and will be preceded with a 1:45 p.m. Senior Day ceremony for three graduating players.
