Softball Posts Walkoff Win to Earn ODAC Split

FERRUM, Virginia -- Brianna Michaels had a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two to give Ferrum College an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball split with Guilford College tonight at Vickie Van Kleeck Field. Guilford took the opener 7-0, then Ferrum rebounded with an 8-7 comeback win in the nightcap.

GAME TWO
Guilford scored four runs in the top of the first inning and added two in the third for a 6-0 lead, and the Quakers looked to be headed for a doubleheader sweep.

Ferrum had different plans, getting three runs on Macey Moore's blast over the center field fence in the bottom of the third to trim the score to 6-3. Guilford picked up a run in the fourth inning on an RBI single, but Ferrum answered with a run in the bottom half of the frame on Breanna Weaver's sac fly to left field to make it a 7-4 game after four full innings.

Ferrum scored three in the bottom of the sixth inning, one on Kaycee Kincaid's RBI double to left center, one on Leanna Bartrug's sac fly to left field and one on Weaver's RBI single to shortstop to tie the game at 7-7.

The Quakers stranded runners at second and third base in the top of the seventh inning, setting up Ferrum's comeback bid. Macey Moore walked to open the inning, then Carsen Hogston pinch ran for her and moved to second on a throwing error. Lexi Bennett's sac bunt moved her to third, then Michaels' sac fly to deep left field allowed Hogston to score just ahead of Guilford's throw to the plate for the walkoff win.

Kylie Atkins, who started the game on the mound, was replaced, then later returned to get the win. She pitched four innings in all and closed the game with three strikeouts to earn her third win this season.
