Softball Splits on Senior Day in Home Season Finale

FERRUM, Virginia -- The Ferrum College softball split today's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader against Shenandoah University, winning 4-3 in game one and dropping the second 8-4 on Senior Day.

THE BASICS

GAME ONE
Ferrum scored the first two runs of the game on Kylie Atkins 2-run single to center field in the third inning. Shenandoah got a run back in the fourth on a single to right field. Kerstin Syder's double to right center field scored a run and put the Panthers up 3-1 after five innings. In the sixth a solo homerun to left field got the Hornets within a run 3-2. Synder again came up big with an RBI double to right center, gave Ferrum a 4-2 lead. Shenandoah scored one run in the seventh, making the final 4-3 in game one

GAME TWO
A double steal brought in the first runner of the game for the Hornets and two batters later Paige Eagleton hit a two-run homerun to right field to lead 3-0. Kaycee Kincaid hit an RBI groundout to drive in Ferrum's first run the second inning. Leanna Bartrug came around to score on a passed ball, cutting the deficit to 3-2. A three-run third inning put Shenandoah up 6-2. 

Emily Hooper's RBI groundout and Macey Moore's sacrifice fly to left field, pulled the Panthers back within two, 6-4 in the third inning. Shenandoah scored two more runs in the top of the sixth and held on to a 8-4 win.
