Box Score 2 FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference home matches today at Swartz Gym, beating Warren Wilson College 3-1 and losing to Carolina Universoty 3-0.

In the first match, Ferrum took the opening two sets, only to see Warren Wilson rally to take the third set. In the fourth and final set, the Panthers raced out to a 5-1 lead, including a pair of service aces from
Savanna Walker and one from
Carsyn Diggs. The Owls answered with a 6-1 run that tied the set at 7-7. Ferrum built a 15-11 lead from there, but Warren Wilson made it a 15-14 score before the Panthers would start to pull away.
Harleigh Propst had a pair of kills down the stretch, while Jaysee Chaffin had a kill and a service ace, while
Chloe Pfuntner and
Jaycee Chaffin had a kill each to close it out.

This match was as close as it could be. The Panthers trailed 18-11 in the opening set, but rallied to get to within a point at 23-22 before Carolina would close it out. Ferrum went out in front 3-0 to start the second set, and the score was tied five times throughout the set. At 13-13, Carolina began to provide separation, using a 7-1 run to take control, then hung on to take the two-set lead. Ferrum opened a 5-1 lead in the third and final set, then expanded the lead to 12-5 on a kill each by
Airiana Beverley and Propst. The Bruins then used an 8-0 spurt to go out in front 13-12, then hung on over the next few minutes to take the set and match.

Shelbylynn Adair's team will be back in action Friday and Saturday, September 6-7, at the Maroon Classic, hosted by Roanoke College. The Panthers face Methodist University and Salem College Friday, then take on Greensboro College and host Roanoke Saturday.
