Football Wins 36-10 at Averett

DANVILLE, Virginia -- Zach Wyatt was 14-19 passing for 283 yards and two touchdowns to lead Ferrum College to a 36-10 non-conference football win over Averett University Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.

THE BASICS
Mikhail Iakovlev got Averett on the scoreboard first with a 21-yard field four minutes into the game. Ferrum responded with a four-play, 64-yard drive five minutes later on a Wyatt to Nathan Aguilar 46-yard touchdown pass at the 5:55 mark.

Seth Deaton knocked down a 42-yard field goal for Ferrum at 13:37 of the second quarter, the Jahylen Lee rumbled in from a yard out six minutes later to make it a 17-3 game. Deaton then split the uprights from 30 yards out to give Ferrum a 20-3 lead at  the break.

Deaton would connect on his third field goal of the night, this time from 36 yards, to open the third quarter at 11:55. Lee scored another rushing touchdown from a yard out at 4:48 of the third and the rout was on at 29-3.

Aguilar hauled in his second touchdown pass of the night from Wyatt, a 36-yard strike at 14:52 of the fourth quarter to make the score 36-3. Averett's Gaby Soto closed out scoring with a 33-yard touchdown run with 12:09 left in the game.

Coach Kevin Sherman's team will have a bye week Saturday, September 28, then returns to the gridiron Saturday, October 5, at home against Bridgewater College. Kickoff for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener is set for 2:00 p.m. at W.B. Adams Stadium.
