VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia -- Ferrum College fell in four sets today to Virginia Wesleyan University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) volleyball action. Set scores this morning at Townebank Arena were 25-14, 25-15, 31-33, 25-13.

THE BASICS
Virginia Wesleyan opened with a 10-0 run in the first set before Ferrum settled down.
Kenzee Chaffin's kill off a Savana Walker set cut the lead to 13-7 midway through the set. The Marlins stayed seven to 11 points in front the rest of the way in grabbing the opening set.
The second set was tight with a 10-10 score, but Virginia Wesleyan provided some distance with five straight points to take a 15-10 lead, one they held throughout the set in taking a two sets to love lead.
The third set was a marathon. Chafin and
Airiana Beverley blocked at attack to put Ferrum up 10-7, and the two teams played dead even from there en route to a 22-22 stalemate. VWU had set and match point at 25-24, but
Renee Dove's kill off a Chaffin set tied the match at 25-25. Tha Panthers fought off five more match points from there to stay alive, then closed the set with three straight kills, one each from Chaffin,
Bailey Terry and
Harleigh Propst.
The fourth set was tied early at 3-3 when the Marlins used an 8-3 run to go up 11-6. The Panthers battled hard down the stretch, picking up kills from Chaffin and Beverley, but Virginia Wesleyan would go on claim the match and remain unbeaten in ODAC play at 3-0 this season.
