Box Score FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College dropped its football season opener at home, falling to #5 University of Mou8nt Union, 55-6 this afternoon at W.B. Adams Stadium. Today's game marked the head coaching debut for Ferrum's Kevin Sherman.

THE BASICS
Ferrum drew first blood when
Seth Deaton knocked down a 26-yard field goal at 4:11 of the first quarter to make it a 3-0 game. Mount Union answered with a 32-yard rushing touchdown from Tyler Echeverry two and a half minutes later and the game was 7-3 at the close of the first quarter. The Raiders would go on to score three touchdowns in the second quarter, while Deaton connected on a 24-yard field goal attempt for the Panthers at the 7:21 mark, and the score was 28-6 at halftime.
Mount Union would scored three more touchdowns in the third quarter and one in the fourth for the final count. Noah Beaudrie factored into five Mount Union scores this afternoon, with passing touchdowns for eight and 12 yards, as well as rushing scores from 12, one and five yards out.
