Sophomore sensation Amber Nichole Gillen led the Panthers' attack with two goals in regulation. Gillen opened the scoring in the 37th minute off a setup from Breanna Herlihy, giving Ferrum a 1–0 lead at halftime. Chowan equalized in the 61st minute on a goal by Riley Donnelly, assisted by Amy Cotton, but Gillen answered quickly—striking again in the 63rd minute to restore the Panthers' advantage. The Hawks battled back to level the score at 2–2 in the 70th minute when Laura Hulme converted off assists from Donnelly and Cotton, forcing extra time.
