FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball doubleheader with Roanoke College today at home. The Panthers took the opener 4-1, then dropped the nightcap 10-1 this afternoon at Vickie Van Kleeck Field.

GAME ONE
Mirenda Shields had an RBI single to right field to get Ferrum on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning. A double steal in the second inning allowed
Kaylee Hughes score from third and make it a 2-0 game.
Roanoke picked up a run in the third inning on an RBI ground out, but Ferrum's
Emily Wood and Shields each had RBI singles in the fourth to account for the final score. Wood pitched a complete seven-inning game to get the win, improving to 3-4 this season in the circle. Shields, Woods and Hughes each had a pair of base hits.
GAME TWO
The Maroons rode the arm of fireballer Maggie McCray in the nightcap, who struck out 11 Ferrum batters in four innings to earn the win. Roanoke scored five runs in the third inning, three in the fourth and two in fifth.
Nicole Emerson scored in the bottom of the fifth inning for Ferrum on a Shields RBI fielders choice to break up the shutout. The game was halted after five innings due to the run rule.
UP NEXT
Coach Joshua Freeman's team will back back in action Saturday, March 22, at home against Randolph-Macon College. The ODAC doubleheader is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start at VVK Field.
