Football Posts Shutout Win at Barton

WILSON, N.C. -- Ferrum College picked up its first win of the season with a 21-0 shutout of Barton College Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas football action at Electric Supply Company Field at Truist Stadium.

The Panthers scored twice in the opening quarter and added another touchdown in the second quarter to take a 21-0 lead into halftime, then held Barton scoreless the rest of the way.

THE BASICS
Ferrum opened the scoring with 11:34 remaining in the first quarter when Jycen Anciso scored on a 5-yard touchdown run, capping an eight-play, 63-yard drive. The Panthers added another touchdown on a 1-yard run by Eli Foutz with 6:27 remaining in the quarter to take a 14-0 lead.

Ferrum extended its advantage to 21-0 with 1:06 remaining in the second quarter when Foutz scored on another 1-yard touchdown run. That score capped a nine-play, 47-yard drive and gave the Panthers a 21-0 lead at halftime.

Neither team scored in the second half. Ferrum's defense forced a Barton fumble early in the third quarter when Macaire Mbakop forced a fumble by Jayden Brown that was recovered by Maurice Burnette at the Barton 35-yard line. The Panthers then drove inside the Barton 15-yard line, but a 28-yard field-goal attempt was wide.

Ferrum again moved into Barton territory later in the third quarter, reaching the Barton 29-yard line, but the Panthers missed a 46-yard field-goal attempt. The Panthers finished the game with 370 yards of total offense, including 277 rushing yards, while holding Barton to 244 total yards. Ferrum converted all three of its fourth-down attempts this afternoon.
