WISE, Va. -- Ferrum College's softball team opened the 2026 campaign today on the road, dropping a pair of non-conference games to UVA Wise. Game scores were 3-1 and 5-2, played this afternoon at Bill Gatton Field.

UVA Wise scored a run in the fourth inning and two in the fifth to grab the early lead. Ferrum's

In the nightcap,
Samantha Smith's ground out to third base allowed Garrett to score in the first inning and gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead. The Highland Cavaliers scored a run in the bottom half of the frame, then picked up three runs in the third inning and one in the sixth to open a 5-1 lead. Smith's RBI single up the middle in the seventh inning pushed Garrett across the plate for the game's final score.
