Lacrosse Tops West Virginia Wesleyan College

FERRUM, Virginia – The Ferrum Panthers earned their first win of the season with a commanding 17–5 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday afternoon at W.B. Adams Stadium in non-conference women's lacrosse action. Ferrum was led by Micaiyah Dickerson, who scored six goals and added one assist.

THE BASICS
West Virginia Wesleyan opened the scoring in the first quarter, but Ferrum quickly responded. Dickerson netted three goals in the opening period as the Panthers scored four unanswered to take a 4-1 lead after one.

Ferrum continued to build momentum in the second quarter. Ashlyn LaPlante found the back of the net for the Bobcats, but goals from Lana Barkovic and Caroline Moore helped the Panthers take a 6-2 advantage into halftime.

The third quarter proved decisive. After KP Pond briefly cut into the deficit for West Virginia Wesleyan, Ferrum erupted for six goals in the period. Dickerson added two more during the stretch, while Alaia Beckwith, Noelle LaCharite, Caroline Moore, and Barkovic each contributed to extend the lead to 12-3 entering the final frame.

Ferrum continued its offensive surge in the fourth, adding five more goals. Boluwatife Omoleye and Nyah Elmer scored for the visitors, but the Panthers answered each time to secure the 17-5 victory.

Ferrum dominated statistically, outshooting the Bobcats 52-14, including a 35-7 edge in shots on goal. The Panthers also held advantages in draw controls (15-10) and ground balls (25-21), while committing just 19 turnovers compared to 37 by West Virginia Wesleyan.

Faith Feazell, in her first career start, earned the win in goal for Ferrum, allowing five goals and making two saves. Ella Gomez recorded 21 saves for the Bobcats.
