DURHAM, N.C. -- Ferrum College saw its postseason run come to an end on Sunday afternoon, falling to Wingate Un iversity, 32-14, in the Conference Carolinas Women's Flag Football Championships title game, held at Durham County Memorial Stadium.

THE BASICS
The Panthers struck first and looked poised early, but Wingate used a dominant second and third quarter surge to pull away and secure the championship. Ferrum opened the scoring in the first quarter when
Breyana Kimmons took a direct snap and punched it in with a 1-yard rushing touchdown, followed by a successful conversion pass from
Payson Shreeve to give the Panthers a 7-0 lead.
Wingate responded in the second quarter with back-to-back scoring drives, both orchestrated by Jhenelle Francis, to take a 14-7 lead into halftime. The momentum continued into the third quarter as Wingate added two more touchdowns—stretching the lead to 26-7 behind Francis' dual-threat performance.
Ferrum showed resilience midway through the third quarter, capping a 66-yard drive with a touchdown and successful conversion to cut the deficit to 26-14. However, Wingate answered in the fourth quarter with another scoring drive to seal the 32-14 victory.
Shreeve led the Ferrum offense with 285 passing yards on 34-of-59 attempts, connecting with
Macy Taylor early and often. Taylor turned in a standout performance with 18 receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Ferrum recorded two interceptions, with Kimmons and
Zy'Breayziah Alexander each coming away with picks.
Samantha Pitzer led the team with five tackles, while
Jaden Hiers added five tackles and two tackles for loss. Hiers, Pitzer and Taylor each earned spots on the All-Tournament team for their effort in three games this weekend in Durham The complete All-Tournament team is listed below.

SEASON FINALE
The loss closed out a magical season for first-year Head Coach
Garrett Roth and his team. The Panthers finished with an impressive 17-4 record in their first season as a program, including an 8-1 league mark, to win a share of the inaugural Conference Carolinas regular season title. Ferrum graduates one player, while another 20 players are eligible to return for the 2027 season.
