FERRUM, Va. -- Conference Carolinas has announced its Players of the Week and Ferrum College freshman
Sebastian Ondas has been named Men's Tennis Player of the Week. In three matches last week, Ondas went 5-1 overall, including a perfect 3-0 mark in singles competition.
In a 4-3 loss to King University April 14 at home, Ondas defeated Bar Meshel 6-3, 6-7 (11-13), 6-2 at No. 2 singles. He and doubles partner
Brian Karenzi also beat Meshel and Rohan Chalisgaonkar 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Then in Ferrum's 5-2 win over Barton College April 17 on the road, Ondas beat Diego Rodriguez 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. He and Karenzi also defeated Sean Maphosa and William Drake of Barton 7-6 at No. 2 doubles. The team win for Ferrum avenged an earlier loss this season.
Ondas closed out the week in Ferrum's 6-1 loss April 18 on the road at University of Mount Olive. He bumped up to No. 1 singles and had to grind out a 7-6 (8-6), 6-7 (5-7), 13-11 win over Mount Olive's Kristoffer Dalbak. He and Karenzi lost 6-2 to Niklas Gruenefeldt and Rasmus Grindheim at No. 2 doubles, his only loss last week.Â
This is the first Conference Carolinas Tennis Player of the Week honor for Ondas. He is the second Ferrum men's tennis player to earn the award, joining Karenzi, who was named Men's Tennis Player of the Week on March 4.
