FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College split its season finale non-conference baseball doubleheader with Bluefield State University on the road Monday, April 27, taking the opener 9-7 and falling 7-3 in the nightcap at Bowen Field.

GAME ONE
Ferrum opened the doubleheader with a strong offensive performance, using a six-run fifth inning to rally past Bluefield State for a 9-7 victory. The Panthers struck first in the opening inning when
Garrett Pancione reached on an error, allowing
Hunter Carlson to score for an early 1-0 lead.
Bluefield State responded with a run in the bottom of the first and surged ahead with three runs in the third inning to take a 4-1 advantage. Ferrum answered in a big way in the fifth, as
Grady White and Pancione delivered RBI singles to cut into the deficit. Sacrifice flies from Cameron Kemmerer and Jackson Tyree tied the game, and Jacob Mulhern followed with a two-run double to give Ferrum the lead.
Eli Elliott capped the inning with an RBI single, putting the Panthers out in front 7-4.
Ferrum added two more runs in the sixth inning behind an RBI double from
Colin Kim and another sacrifice fly from Kemmerer to extend the lead to 9-4. Bluefield State mounted a late push with three runs in the seventh, but
Carter Liverman entered to record the final out and secure the win.

GAME TWO
In the finale, Ferrum jumped out to an early lead in the second inning when
Tyler Mason delivered a two-run single to give the Panthers a 2-0 advantage. Bluefield State answered immediately, tying the game in the bottom half of the frame before taking the lead for good with two runs in the third inning.
The Big Blues extended their lead in the fifth inning on a two-run homer by Nick Diaz, pushing the margin to 6-2. Ferrum managed to get one run back in the sixth when Jacob Mulhern drove in Cameron Kemmerer, but Bluefield State responded in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single from Edwin Hernandez to make it 7-3.
Ferrum was unable to generate a late rally as Bluefield State starter Jaedin Guerra went the distance to earn the win and secure the split.

SEASON FINALE
The doubleheader closes out the season for second-year Head Coach
Eric Owens and his team. The Panthers finished 18-28 overall and 9-23 in Conference Carolinas in the first year as an NCAA Division II program. Eight players graduate in May, while another 46 players are eligible to return for the 2027 season.
