FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College's women's soccer team battled Southern Wesleyan University to a 1-1 halftime tie before the Warriors scored seven times in the second half to pull away for an 8-3 Conference Carolinas win Saturday afternoon at Penn-Roediger Field.

THE BASICS
A back-and-forth opening half saw Ferrum take the lead in the 28th minute.
Alicia Martinez scored an unassisted goal at the 27:17 mark to put the Panthers ahead 1-0. Southern Wesleyan answered in the 40th minute when Madison Stanley scored off an assist from Jessie Parrott, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
The Warriors took the lead early in the second half when Stanley scored her second goal of the afternoon at 55:01. Brianna Gonzalez added a goal less than two minutes later, followed by goals from Maya Drew and Lucia Fernandez as Southern Wesleyan built a 5-1 advantage.
Ferrum battled back with two goals in a 13-minute span.
Breanna Herlihy scored at 70:52, then added her second goal of the afternoon at 83:17 on an assist from
Jaden Hiers. The Warriors added three more goals in the final eight minutes to secure the Conference Carolinas road win.
