FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College erupted for five goals, including four from
Breanna Herlihy, to rally past Virginia State University, 5-2, Saturday night in non-conference women's soccer action at Penn-Roediger Field.

THE BASICS
Ferrum's
Breanna Herlihy opened the scoring in the 35th minute, finding the back of the net off an assist from
Jaden Hiers. Virginia State answered just 20 seconds later when Morgan Parris converted a penalty kick to tie the match at 1-1 and that score stood through halftime.
Herlihy struck again in the 53rd minute, this time off an assist from
Summer Stevens, before completing her hat trick on a penalty kick in the 58th minute to give the Panthers a 3-1 advantage.Â
Erica Mathews pulled Virginia State within one with a goal in the 66th minute, but Herlihy completed her four-goal night in the 74th minute to restore Ferrum's two-goal advantage. Hiers capped scoring in the 79th minute, taking a pass from Herlihy for the Panthers' fifth goal of the night.
MILESTONE
Herlihy is only the second player in the school history to score four or more goals in a game. She joins former standout Cara Kolina, who had five goals against Averett University in 2004. Herlihy's nine points tonight is one shy of Kolina's record (10 pts) for single game points. Herlihy's hat trick is the 30th in school history and the first since Bri Bitz had a pair of hat tricks during the 2024 season.
