Billy Wagner joined the Ferrum College baseball coaching staff in March 2026 as Roving Pitching Strategist Consultant. In July 2025, Wagner became the first ever NCAA Division III baseball player named to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.Â
Wagner dominated in NCAA Div. III baseball as a pitcher, earning first team All-America in 1993 for the Panthers. At Ferrum, he went 17-3 with a 1.63 ERA, holding NCAA Div. III records for career strikeouts (327) and strikeouts per nine innings (19.1 in 1992).Â
Wagner was drafted in the first round of the MLB Amateur Draft as the #12 overall selection. He went on to spend 16 seasons in major Major League Baseball with the Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox and Altanta Braves. Wagner is a seven-time Major League Baseball All-Star (1991, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010).Â
