Sam Martin joined the Ferrum football coaching staff in May 2021, and works primarily with running backs. In April 2022, he became Co-Special Teams Coordinator.

Martin is a former running back at Ferrum from 2013-17, and served as a team captain his final season. He also spent a year as a student assistant in 2018 under Assistant Coach Bob Brown.

Martin previously served a year as athletic liaison with the Ferrum admissions office, serving as a link between the athletics and admissions offices. He also handled campus tours for prospecting athletes. 

After graduating from Ferrum in 2019 with a Health and Human Performance degree and a minor in Coaching, Martin spent one season as the Outside Linebackers and Running Backs Coach at Glenvar High School in Roanoke, Virginia, where the Highlanders finished with a 7-5 mark and a birth in the Virginia High School League (VHSL) playoffs.
