Women's Basketball Opens Tonight at Roanoke

FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College's women's basketball team opens the 2016-17 season tonight with a non-conference game at Roanoke College.

Ferrum is coming off a 15-12 season from a year ago. The Panthers return All-Conference first team selection junior Zarkia Mattox, who averaged 15.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game last season. Also back is junior Erin March, who averaged 6.7 points and 5.9 rebounds last year. Ferrum is led by 12th year Head Coach Bryan Harvey.

Roanoke is coming off a 13-13 season and returns the top two leading scorers in Carrie Beahm and Bridget Holleran, who averaged 18.1 and 13.2 points per game, respectively. The Maroons are led by third-year Head Coach Carly Flaherty.

Tonight's contest will be the first basketball game played inside the Maroons' new Cregger Center, which opened this fall.

Ferrum and Roanoke have played each other 32 times, with the Maroons holding a 21-11 series lead. Ferrum's last win came during the 2014-15 season, while the Maroons last win was in 2010-11 season.
