LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Ferrum College men's basketball team opened the 2008-09 season with a 73-65 loss to Roanoke College Nov. 15 at the Washington & Lee Classic.

Keith Crump led all scorers with 18 points on 5-22 shooting.  Derek Mitchell, last year's USA South Rookie of the Year, had 12 points to go with a game-high 18 rebounds.  Justin Henderson chipped in 12 points in the loss.

Roanoke led 40-23 at halftime.  The Maroons were led by Curtis Peery and Melvin Felix, who had 12 points each.  Peery had 10 rebounds as well.  Matt Crizer had 11 points.

Ferrum is scheduled to play Washington and Lee Sunday, Nov. 16, at 4 p.m.  The Panthers will then be in action Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Randolph College.  The non-conference game is set for 7 p.m. in Lynchburg, Virginia.
