FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College built a 38-25 halftime lead and held on in the second half for a 66-63 non-conference men's basketball win over NCAA Division II opponent Davis & Elkins College at home tonight.
Keith Crump had a game-high 23 points as the Panthers improved to 4-3 this season with the victory. Crump leads the team in scoring at 15.9 points per game.
Marcus Mayo added 22 points, including three treys.
Derek Mitchell barely missed a double-double, notching 16 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers. Mitchell has four double-doubles thus far through Ferrum's first seven games. He is averaging 13.4 points and 12.4 rebounds.
Tim Turner led the Senators with 22 points. Jordan Lawson had 13 points, and Bryant Wallace had 10 points to go with a game-high 12 rebounds.
Ferrum will break for final exams, then return to action Tuesday, Dec. 16, at home against Lancaster Bible College. Tip-off for the non-conference game is set for 2 p.m. at Swartz Gymnasium.
