FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College won a share of the 2008 USA South men's basketball regular season title Feb. 23 at home with a 81-80 win over North Carolina Wesleyan College.

Jerrell Wade drove the distance of the floor with 0:08 showing on the clock to deliver the winning points for Ferrum on a layup the rolled around the rim before dropping in amidst pandemonium at Swartz Gymnasium. The win gave Ferrum a tie with Methodist University for the regular season championship. It is Ferrum's first conference men's basketball title since the 1994-95 season.
Ferrum (14-11, 8-4 USA South) was led in scoring by senior
Jon Godsey with 21 points, while Wade and sophomore
Keith Crump had 16 each. The panthers were tied with NCW 32-32 at halftime.
N.C. Wesleyan (11-14, 4-8 USA South) was led by Jarmel Arrington's 17 points. Jarvis Cobb added 15, Lenny Hall 11, and Lamont Stokes 10.
Ferrum will be the #2 seed in the quarterfinal round of the USA South Tournament, hosting #7 N.C. Wesleyan. The conference tournament semifinals and championship will once again be held in Newport News at Christopher Newport University.
