NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Ferrum College never recovered from a slow start, falling 82-73 Christopher Newport University 82-73 in USA South men's basketball action this afternoon on the road.
Ferrum trailed 39-32 at the break, but Christopher Newport widened the gap to 20 points in the second en route to the USA South victory.
Junior
Keith Crump led the Panthers with 21 points, while
Derek Mitchell earned his 10th double-double of the season, netting 15 points and pulling down 18 rebounds.
Jerrell Wade and
Marcus Mayo also scored in double figures, recording 12 and 11 points, respectively.
CNU (11-6, 4-0 USA South) got 21 points from Devon Barton, 20 from Michael Green, and 16 from Thomas Whinnett. Mark Blasingame added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Captains. CNU out-rebounded Ferrum 43-37.
Ferrum (10-8, 3-2 USA South) returns to action when it faces off against North Carolina Wesleyan College Feb. 1 at home.
