DANVILLE, Va. -- The Ferrum College men's basketball team dropped a non-conference game this afternoon at the Averett University Classic, falling 76-67 to Carnegie-Mellon University.
Derek Mitchell led the way again for the Panthers, pouring in 19 points and ripping down nine rebounds.
Jerrell Wade had 14 points, while
Keith Crump and
Marcus Mayo had 13 points each. Mitchell was named to the All-Tournament team. In two games, he had 31 points and 18 rebounds.
Carnegie Mellon (10-1) opened the game with a 6-0 run and led by as many as 13 in the first half. The Tartans out-rebounded Ferrum 38-26 and shot almost 42% from behind the three-point line.
Jack Anderson paced CMU with 19 points. Ryan Einwag had 15 points on 7-13 shooting, and Shane Rife had 12 points. Terrence Bouldin-Johnson had 10 rebounds to go with nine points.
Ferrum (6-6) returns to action in a week, playing Piedmont College Saturday, Jan. 10, at home. The non-conference affair is slated to tip off at 3 p.m. in Swartz Gymnasium.
