FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College eked out a 5-4 win over Greensboro College in USA South Athletic Conference women's tennis action April 8 at home.
The Panthers opened the day with wins at #2 and #3 doubles.
Angelina Baaklini and
Heather Marshall beat Brittany Cates and Rachel Brown 8-6 at #2 doubles, and ferrum received a forfeit win at #3 doubles.
Ferrum also got singles wins from
Kiawna Berry and
Morgan Moran, and a forfeit at #6 singles. Berry beat Cates 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) in the #3 spot, while Moran blanked Elizabeth Morton 6-0, 6-0 at #5.
Ferrum returns to action Thursday, April 9, on the road at Lynchburg College. The non-conference match is a doubleheader with Ferrum's men and will start at 3 p.m. Coach Lew Hege's team will then play at USA South opponent Meredith College Saturdya, April 11.
The Panthers will then compete in next week's
USA South Tennis Tournament in Burlington, North Carolina, starting with a play-in match Tuesday, April 14, likely at home. The tournament quarterfinals, semifinals and championship will be held Friday through Sunday, April 17-19, at Burlington Tennis Center as part of the 2009 USA South Spring Sports Festival.
