FERRUM, Va. -- The Ferrum College community was saddened to hear of the passing of James Dobson recently at his home in Fredericksburg, Virginia. James is the youngest brother of former quarterback Matt Dobson, who graduated from Ferrum in May of 2010.
James lost his battle with cancer January 27, 2013 at the young age of 13 years old. James was an inspiration to so many Ferrum football players, coaches and fans and will never be forgotten. He is survived by his parents, Danny and Cathy Dobson; his brothers, Cory Dobson and Matt Dobson and his wife, Kristen; one niece, Hailey Dobson; his grandparents, Helen "Nanny" Hughes, Daniel "Da" Dobson and Dorothy "Mamaw" Dobson; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
"James was one of tougthest individuals I've ever met," said Ferrum Football Coach Dave Harper. "The way he competed in his life should show the rest of us how fortunate we are to have our health. We'll miss James and his positive attitude."

James Ferris Dobson, 13, of Spotsylvania County took his heavenly journey on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at his home with his loving family at his side, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
James is survived by his parents, Danny and Cathy Dobson; his brothers, Cory A. Dobson and Matthew D. Dobson and his wife, Kristen; one niece, Hailey Brooke Dobson; his grandparents, Helen "Nanny" Hughes, Daniel "Da" Dobson and Dorothy "Mamaw" Dobson; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. James was preceded in death by his grandfather, Claude A. Hughes.
James attended Battlefield Elementary and Battlefield Middle. James was known at his elementary school as the "Mayor." Due to his illness he was not able to attend middle school much, but was a great "Warrior" for his middle school. James lived life trusting and believing in God every day. He ministered to all he came in contact with, showing them what faith in God was all about.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 30, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at the funeral home chapel.
