Raise the Roof!

FERRUM, Va. -- The roof was placed onto the new pressbox at W.B. Adams Stadium today. Like it's close neighbor, the Hank Norton Athletic Center, the new pressbox has a hip-style roof, a type of roof where all sides slope downwards to the walls.

While more difficult to build, hip roofs have advantages over other roofing designs. Because all four sides are angled, there is little chance for water to stand anywhere on the surface of the roof. In areas that tend to have a lot of snow, hip roofs are a good choice because the design encourages snow run-off and helps avoid roof collapse. A hip roof is also less vulnerable to high winds, allowing it to be used in all types of climates.

Ferrum will first use the new pressbox the weekend of Saturday, September 14, when the Panther football team will face non-conference opponent Shenandoah University in our home-opener. More pics and video to come soon here on ferrumpanhers.com.
