MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- Six players scored in double figures this afternoon for Maryville College, as the Scots handed Ferrum College an 85-74 USA South Athletic Conference men's basketball loss.
Jaumonee Byrd had 23 points and nine rebounds to lead the charge for Maryville (6-6, 2-0 USA South), going 10-19 from the floor. Christian Ford had 13 points, Oscar Butler had 12 points, and Spencer Shoffman had 11 points. Craig Raye and Joey Bodewig chipped in 10 points each for Maryville, this year's preseason pick to win the league title.
Jamal Pullen had 21 points and eight rebounds for the Panthers (3-8, 0-2 USA South), while
Rashawn Speas added 17 points and 12 rebounds. The Panthers lost despite out-rebounding the Scotts 53-53. Maryville led 33-29 at the break.
Coach Bill Tharp's team returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Washington and Lee University. The non-conference game gets underway at 7:00 p.m. in Lexington, Virginia.
