William Sharp and
Kevin Minter each won in singles and doubles to lift Ferrum College to a 6-3 non-conference men's tennis win over Southern Virginia University this afternoon on the road. The match closed out the fall portion of Ferrum's 2014-15 season.
Ferrum swept all three doubles matches to open the afternoon. Freese and
Taylor Napier crushed Dallin Evans and Brian Boocker 8-1 at #1. Sharp and Minter won a tight match 9-7 over Brennan Alford and Kjell Hennis at #2.
Danny Keo and
Chris Madonna nipped Parker Monson and Aaron Hiatt 8-6 at #3.
The Panthers (1-1) then posted wins at #3-5 singles with Freese, Sharp and Minter winning in that order. Freese beat Alford in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8). Sharp beat Hennis 7-6 (4), 6-1 and Minter beat Hiatt 6-3, 6-2. The Knights (1-2) got wins at #1-2 and #6 singles. Keo and Napier lost at #1-2 singles, respectively, while
Alec Lippe fell at #6 singles. The Panthers (1-1) return to action in February.
