LEXINGTON, Va. -- Ferrum College fell 4-1 to Washington and Lee University in non-conference men's soccer play this afternoon at Watt Field. Zach Colby scored all four goals for the Generals (8-2). The game was stopped in the 71st minute of play due to darkness.
Colby scored his first goal at 5:22 with an assist from Austin Gilbert, then punched three more in at 17:42, 37:15 and 47:30.
Matthew Poirier helped the Panthers avoid the shutout when he scored in the 70th minute of play with an assist from
Xander Matthews.
Keegan Fairchild played the first 60:20 in net, making four saves and allowing four goals. Bradley Bryar played the remaining 9:46 with one save.
Washington and Lee outshot Ferrum 19-7 and closed with a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Panthers (4-7-2) return to action Thursday, Oct. 9, at home against Chowan University. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Penn-Roediger Field.
