LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- The Ferrum College men's soccer team suffered a pair of USA South Athletic Conference losses this weekend on the road to open league play. Ferrum fell 3-2 Friday, Sept. 19, to Piedmont College, then dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to Covenant College this afternoon.
In the loss to Piedmont, the Panthers got a goal each from
Jae White and
Kyle Simpkins. White's goal came in the 61st minute of play and tied the score at 1-1. After Piedmont took a 2-1 lead, Simpkins knotted the score with a goal in the 78th minute. The game looked to be headed into overtime when Vincent Thomas took a pass from Chris Keller and beat Ferrum goalkeeper
Zach Moorman for the game-winner with 50 seconds remaining in regulation. Moorman played all 90 minutes in net and made five saves. Kenneth Hearn made seven for the Lions (4-2) 1-0 USA South).
