MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -- Ferrum College's
Melissa Teeple competed in the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships, hosted this morning at Berry College. Teeple finished 40th in a field of 213 runners.
Emory University won the team title with a combined score of 68. Rhodes College was second at 103. Christopher Newport University (117), Washington and Lee University (126) and Trinity University of Texas (127) rounded out the top five teams among the 27 that scored as a team.
Teeple completed the 6K regional championship course in a time of 23:54. Centre College's Serena Gale-Butto won the event with a time of 21:51, while Holly McCullough of Trinity (22:17) was second and Ashley Litoff of Rhodes (22.22) was third.
Teeple also recently competed in the 2016 Women's Collegiate Triathlon National Championships, held Saturday, Nov. 5, in Lew Orleans, Louisiana. Teeple placed eighth in a field of 48 competitors from across the United States, posting times of 10:25 in the swimming leg, 32:59 in the bike leg and 19:44 in the running leg. Her total time, including transitions, was 1:04.17. She was less than three minutes behind the eventual national champ Erika Ackerlund of the University of Montana, who posted a final time of 1:01.27.
