Jake Perkins struck out nine in the opener as Ferrum College split a USA South Athletic Conference doubleheader with Maryville College this afternoon at Panther Field. The Panthers won the opener 7-3, but lost the nightcap 6-4.

Austin Winkles had solo homers in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, in game one for the Panthers. In the nightcap, Peck came on with two outs in the sixth inning, securing the third out on a rundown. He then struck out out eight of the next nine batters he faced, but was saddled with the loss when three errors in the ninth inning cost the Panthers a pair of runs.
