Jake Perkins and
Lucas Stevers have been honored with USA South Baseball Player of the Week honors. Perkins nabbed Pitcher of the Week honors, while Stevers was named Rookie of the Week. The pair helped Ferrum post a 4-0 record last week and win the USA South regular season title.
Perkins picked up a complete-game win in Ferrum's 3-1 USA South over Averett University April 8 at home in his only appearance on the mound last week. He allowed five hits, one unearned run and a walk, while striking out nine batters. Also nominated for the honor this week were Seth Beard of Methodist University, Joshua Hatcher of Averett, Adam Murray of Greensboro College and Blake Schuck of LaGrange College.
Stevers earned his second Rookie of the Week award after going a combined 11-for-17 at the plate for a .647 batting average with two doubles, a home run, five runs, four RBI and a .941 slugging percentage. In a 13-11 win over Eastern Mennonite University April 6 at home, Stevers was 4-for-5 with and a solo home run and three RBI. In a three-game USA South sweep over Averett April 8-10 at home, he went 7-for-12 with two doubles, four run and an RBI.
Ferrum posted a non-conference win on the road this afternoon over Eastern Mennonite to improve to 26-10 overall. The Panthers open USA South Tournament action Thursday, April 14, as the top seed, facing #8 Averett at 10:00 a.m. in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
