WILSON, N.C. -- Top seed Ferrum College opened the 2016 USA South Baseball Tournament with a 2-1 loss to #8 Averett University this morning at Fleming Stadium.

How It Happened
With the game tied 1-1 after eight full innings, Drew Evans doubled to open the ninth inning for the Cougars. Evans moved to third on a sac bunt by Mike Moore, then scored on a wild pitch for the go-ahead run. The Cougars held on in the bottom of the ninth, with Ferrum stranding a runner at second base as the game ended.
