ELON, N.C. -- Ferrum College's cross-country team opened the 2016 season at the Elon Invitational, held this afternoon at Elon Cross-Country Course. Both Panther teams placed first of two NCAA Div. III schools. Overall there were five teams in the race, including three NCAA Div. I schools.

Women: 1. Ferrum 25; 2. Averett 30 ... MEN: 1. Ferrum 26, Averett 33

TOP FINISHES
Melissa Teeple posted Ferrum's highest individual place, closing the 5K course in 21:04 to finish sixth of 29 runners. Sirena Pangelinan finished 16th in a time of 27:06. On the men's side, Alexander Johnson was 28th of 40 runners in a time of 38:08 over the 8K course. Mark Allen followed in 32nd place with a time of 38:28.

Coach Paul Biggs' team will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Maroon Classic in Salem, Virginia.
