Football Team Posts Another Comeback Win Over Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va. -- The Ferrum College football team posted a 13-8 comeback win over Emory & Henry College in the 2017 Crooked Road Classic this afternoon at Fred Selfe Field. The win is the second time in as many years that Ferrum had to come back in the fourth quarter to beat the Wasps.

RECORDS
Ferrum (1-0), Emory & Henry (0-1)

THE BASICS
Johnny White's touchdown reception with 37 seconds left in regulation gave Ferrum the lead and comeback win. The Panthers were forced to punt, trailing 8-6 with 3:20 left in the fourth quarter. The Wasps ran eight plays and moved the ball to their own 31 yard line where they had first and 10 with 1:11 left to play. On the next play, Montel Lee stripped the ball from E&H running back Sam Wagner, scooped up the ball and returned it five yards to the E&H 23 yard line. Four plays later, Zack Clifford found White on a short slant pattern at the E&H five yard line, where he shook off a would-be tackler for the go-ahead score.

Ferrum was held to just 18 yards rushing and 151 yards passing, for 169 yards in total offense. Starting QB Tyler English was 4-9 passing for 69 yards. Clifford came into the game on Ferrum's third series of the first quarter and played the rest of the way. The Wasps had 142 yards rushing and 176 yards passing, for 318 yards in total offense.

DOUBLE-TROUBLE
White scored a touchdown with seven seconds remaining in regulation of last year's home win over Emory & Henry in the inaugural Crooked Road Classic. That score cut the Wasps' lead to 38-37. The Panthers then converted a two-point PAT for a 39-38 comeback win.
