CARY, North Carolina -- Ferrum College's baseball team picked up a non-conference win this afternoon on the road, beating William Peace University 9-3 at USA Baseball National Training Center.

THE BASICS
Ferrum scored three runs in the top of the first inning on an
Ozzie Torres sacrifice fly, a
Clayton Michael RBI single to left field and a
Nick Funk RBI single to right field.
Russell Golembe had a two-run homer over the left field fence in the second inning, then Funk had a groundout to shortstop that drove in another run to make it a 6-0 game after three full frames.
In the sixth inning,
Enrique Diaz scored from third base on a wild pitch, and Michael doubled to right field to drive in another run and extend the lead to 8-0. In the eighth inning, a pair of RBI singles drove in three runs for the Pacers to trim the lead to 8-3, then Funk's sac fly to right field pushed the final run of the game across the plate for the Panthers.
Ferrum pitched by committee today, with nine different pitchers each hurling one inning. Starter
Gavin Stone picked up his first career win after allowing no hits, runs or walks in the first inning.
